Friday, 24 April 2009 12:33 by Jessica Rauch

Exciting news!  Ralph Lauren has announced the winners of their inaugural Match Rugby grant, and--as you may have guessed from this picture of incredibly fashionable people looking at an incredibly gorgeous website--they've selected The Generation Project as the winner of their $25,000 top prize!

Visit the Rugby blog to learn more about the competition, the other amazing finalists, and to read some quotes from us about what this prize means to The Generation Project.  But quite honestly, words cannot express our tremendous gratitude for all those of you who supported us throughout this competition, and for those of you who continue to support us in our mission to expand opportunities for low-income students.  We are humbled and honored by the steady stream of donations, encouragement, and ideas that people from around the country have provided us as we've worked to get The Generation Project off the ground. An incredibly special thank you goes out to Ralph Lauren Rugby and the Teach For America Social Entrepreneurship Initiative for creating this amazing grant competition and for believing in the visions of young philanthropists.

This grant will help us implement the creative visions of many more donors and expand the range of opportunities for thousands of students.  The community section of our website will be live very shortly--if you want us to quantify that in seconds, well, we can engage your neurosis--so check back often for exciting updates leading up to the launch!

THANKS AGAIN FROM THE GENERATION PROJECT!

Updates, Fashion Trends, MTV Shout Out

Tuesday, 14 April 2009 17:37 by Jessica Rauch
The past few months have been extraordinarily busy here at The Generation Project.  Between competing as finalists in the month-long Teach For America/Match Rugby grant competition, finishing the next stage in our website, and continuing to implement gifts through our pilot programs in Detroit and New York City, we haven't had much time to update you fine readers on some other exciting developments.  The rundown, below:

Interactive Website Coming Soon!
In conjunction with 365 Interactive Design, our amazing web developers, we plan to unveil the interactive portion of our site next week. The new site will feature a web platform where donors can post gifts and educators and students can easily apply for available opportunities right from their computers.  New features will be added throughout the spring, so check back often!

The Generation Project Shirts=The New Hotness
Purchase a shirt to support/represent The Generation Project! With any donation of $12 or more, we’ll ship you a signature T-shirt in one of three colors: Brown, Grey, or Blue.
*Please Note: If you would like more than one T-shirt, simply donate in $12 increments (or more if you wish). We’ll email you for size, color, and volume specifications after your donation has been confirmed through our PayPal account or after we receive your check in the mail.

Pilot Program Donor Featured On MTV:
Pop star Marie’ Digby, a special friend of The Generation Project, had a song featured on MTV's The Hills last night.  Congratulations Marie'!!  Not only is Marie' one of the donors in our pilot program, but she also teamed up with the T-shirt company, Fear to Faith and created a shirt that also benefits The Generation Project.  You can purchase one here.
The moral of the story: donate through The Generation Project, and you too will receive fame and fortune (or at least, the great feeling of knowing you're helping kids).

Recent Campus Activity:
●The Generation Project student group at the University of Michigan threw its first event at Rick’s American Café in Ann Arbor, MI this month to raise money and spread awareness about The Generation Project's mission. Prior to the event, members of the student group interviewed numerous University of Michigan students about their passions and had them design gifts they wanted to share with high-need students. Event attendees voted on the gift they would most like to see implemented. The winning gift was designed by a musically-inclined Michigan senior, who proposed purchasing sheet music for an underresourced school.  Proceeds from the Rick's event are now  being used to fulfill his vision.
The Business Law Association at the University of Michigan Law School held an event last month to raise money for a gift to students in Detroit. After careful consideration, BLA members decided that proper interview attire is the first ingredient in ensuring high school students have a chance at obtaining afterschool and summer employment. With this in mind, they donated all proceeds from their event to purchase interview outfits for Detroit high school students.

More exciting developments on the horizon, so check back soon!

New Rugby Competition Voting Procedure

Thursday, 12 March 2009 19:42 by Jessica Rauch

Thanks so much to those of you who have supported The Generation Project over the last week in Ralph Lauren Rugby's $25,000 grant competition. As always, we are blown away by your support.

Today, Rugby tweaked the voting procedure slightly.  In order for your vote to count, we now need people to vote by going to the siteclicking the box to the left of our name and pressing "submit."  Previously, as many of you know, Rugby had you vote by posting a comment to the blog entry.  This system makes it even easier to support us by taking out that pesky typing requirement.

Screenshot?  Aye, screenshot:

Thank for your continued support...and know that this grant, if we are lucky enough to receive it, will go a long way towards helping us expand educational opportunities for students who desperately need them.

Thursday, 5 March 2009 16:03 by Jessica Rauch
Along with four other worthy ideas, The Generation Project is a finalist in a grant competition sponsored by Ralph Lauren Rugby and Teach For America.  Rugby will be awarding $25,000 to the winner of the competition, and $15,000 to the runner-up.  Voting is going on now at the Rugby website; it is free and requires no registration. All you have to do is:

1. Click here.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
3. In the "post a comment" box, write something to the effect of "I am voting for The Generation Project" in the text box.  Specific comments detailing why we are awesome  are really helpful, too!
4. Press submit.

For you visual learners, here is an example:
>

Winning this grant would mean the world to our organization.  Our capacity to implement gifts to students in low-income urban areas would go up at least tenfold, and, upon our official launch, we would be able to aggressively market The Generation Project to new donors.  Please, please, please take two seconds to voice your support for The Generation Project!  Thanks for all you do!
